Benighted – Icon (2007)

I just couldn’t keep on waiting. I sent Julien the money for the CD weeks ago but he didn’t recieve it yet. Me recieving the CD seemed so damn far that I decided to download it – I’ll be getting the CD later anyway. I did a serach on Death Metal Invasion and grabbed the album. I listened to a few songs on their myspace before, so I had an idea of what the album’s going to sound like. Well, it’s just what you’d expect – sheer awesomeness. I could listen to it again and again without getting bored, and the variety they throw in is amazing. There isn’t a single dull minute on Icon, it has everything from grinding blasts, catchy midtempos, percussive grooves, brutal-yet-melodic riffs, and lots of surprises throughout the album – even french rap! Bottom line, Icon is an awesome album, definitely one of my favorites from the past year, and is sure to be a great listen for fans of brutal death and other extreme metal music.
